The Tornado Prediction Center is a research and development center that's mission is to give advanced tornado forecasts/models/watches to storm spotters, emergency officials and the public.
Lead by Meteorologist and Researcher Kevin Martin, TPC is a division of OWSweather.com. OWSweather is widely known for accurate and life saving forecasts in the Southern California area. Whether rain or snow, wind or fog, OWSweather.com has been there for the people. The Santa Ana Winds Forecast Center is the pride of the service there.
With the Tornado Prediction Center open people can have a site to look at for research on tornado forecasting in model form or check the forecasts.
The Tornado Prediction Center is not a division of NOAA/SPC/NWS. Many people that visit it trust the prediction center here. We encourage you to bookmark this website as it can save your life. The SPC at NOAA is the only other one that issues actual tornado warnings. The TPC is stepping up to the plate in issuing tornado watches hours ahead of time to give advanced heads up for those on the road, storm spotting, or staying at home during inclement weather.
The future of the TPC will be live over the net and cell phone broadcasts with Kevin Martin over green screen to give you the latest TPC forecasts, watches, and mesoscale discussions. Once one of those pops up you will see it on the TPC page when it is up.
TPC will also broadcast live tornado warnings from NWS, as we do not issue actual warnings for tornadoes. Just watches. TPC will be with you at all times via net and cell phone. Having chasers on the field as well so you can get the latest video and audio from TPC on the tornadoes in your area.
Your browser updates TPC pages automatically once every 5 minutes so you do not have to refresh manually. You can keep the main watch pages active minimized on your browser and do other things, periodically checking up at TPC and it will be refreshed for you auto. |
